			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>In conjunction with the State Fire Marshal&#8217;s office, Sprngfield Township Fire Department is encouraging Springfield Local Elementary students to participate in the annual statewide fire safety poster contest.  The contest will occur during the week of Fire Prevention Week (October 3-9, 2010).  The contest will be categorized in two separate grade brackets K-3rd and 4th -6th.  The 13 winning entries will receive special recognition by the Division of State Fire Marshal and Springfield Township Fire Department.</p>
<p>Contest rules: </p>
<p>Poster must follow the Fire Safety Theme&#8211;positive behavior.   </p>
<p>Must be on 8.5 x 11 inch paper (white or light).</p>
<p>All artwork must be original. No clippings, photographs, newspapers, books etc.</p>
<p>All posters must be returned to your teacher no later than October 22, 2010.</p>
<p>The State Fire Marshal&#8217;s office will determine the finalist and notify the winners in the Spring of 2011.</p>

<p><span style="color: #000000;">As part of the recognition ceremony on May 19, 2010, twelve Springfield Township Fire Department employees were awarded the EMS Star of Life Award for their dedication, training and commitment to providing day to day life saving services; exceptional patient care, adherence to protocols, proper treatment, extraordinary documentation and the response to emergency incidents promptly and with exemplary professional action.</span></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #000000;">The recipients of this award include:  Captain William Montrie, Lieutenant Charles Butler, Justin Eccleston EMT-P, Sean Baney EMT-P, Jeffrey Merrill EMT-P, Jonathan Gillen, EMT-P, Lynda Bennett EMT-P, William Dodson EMT-B, Joseph Purtee EMT-P, Dwain Sigmon EMT-B, Thomas Hites EMT-B, Ryan Grant EMT-P. </span></strong></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000;"><strong>Personnel were recognized for their EMS services when they were dispatched in the early morning of December 16, 2009, for two pedestrians struck by a train on McCord Road.</strong></span></p>

<p><span style="color: #000000;">The fire safety poster contest is conducted during National Fire Prevention Week each year in October.  This program encourages elementary students to design artwork illustrating positive behavior statements relative to fire safety.  All elementary students are encouraged to join in this event.  Our Fire Prevention Officer will be working with the schools again this Fall to encourage students to particapte in the event and to find next year&#8217;s winner!  Winning entries will receive special recognition in the Spring of the following year.   </span></p>
